Brockholes Quarry - 29th March 2008

2 Rock pipits were present on the eastern edge of No1 by 15.15. There was certainly a single bird present the whole time I was there, and maybe the 2nd bird arrived within the period of driving rain and South Westerly winds. Also present were at least 4 LRPs, and a White wagtail which was a first for the year.

I would absolutely love to see a Rock pipit (let alone 2) amongst the Mipits at LFG, nice one!

What race are these - just the common ones?

Thats my worry. Many of the local birders think that Brockholes only gets littoralis - the scandanavian race because petrosus(the british race) doesn't appear to move any great distance.
I think that the bird pictured is a petrosus due to the darkness overall and the much more extensive streaking in the flanks...
