Wood Warbler - Barbondale, Lancs - 25th May 2009

It's been a long time coming but I've finally seen a Wood Warbler!

There were 2 singing birds in the Barbondale Woodland, however, only this bird was seen. It showed very well c100 yards from the gate at the entrance to the wood.
Other Sightings included:
5+ singing Redstart
2 Spotted Flycatcher
Tree Pipit
Green Woodpecker
mutliple Grey Wagtail, Reed Bunting, Treecreeper, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff (less of the latter)

Barbondale is a site I am hoping to visit much more often as it is one of the nicest place I have visited in Lancashire to birdwatch...I feel the 19oC Sun at 09.00 made a difference mind you

Hya mate.

Congrats with the wood warbler. someone told me bout that place but havnt been yet.

you got a few good other stuff as well. out of what you saw i've only had extremely brief views of pied fly at moor piece and 2 very flighty spot flys at marshaw this year.

only seen wood warbler once before on may 2 year ago.

just been butterfly (etc) watching in the Silverdale area on Monday. great day - will post on blog very soon.

did you catch up with any of the painted lady movement, it's immense!

cheers.

Hi Bob

Barbondale Wood is to the east of Barbon Village, N. Lancs/Yorkshire.

If you go to Kirkby Lonsdale, it's near to there. SD646828

Put that into multimap and you should be able to find it...
